Giving Options to Support Teachers and Students
For donors interested in supporting education, there are several giving options to explore. We encourage you to contact the Community Foundation to learn how we can help you fulfill your charitable intentions.
The Fund for Educational Excellence: DonorsChoose
The endowed Fund for Educational Excellence (FFEE) was created in 1990 by a group of business, school, and private community leaders for the benefit of Linn County K-12 students. Since that time FFEE has annually made grant awards to support teachers in creative, innovative, and effective classroom projects.
In 2015, the Community Foundation began a partnership with DonorsChoose, a nonprofit organization that makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need, to match gifts to help fund classroom projects in Linn County, Iowa. Linn County public school teachers have the opportunity to submit classroom project requests to DonorsChoose, and donors are able to give any amount to the projects that inspire them directly through DonorsChoose. The Community Foundation provides a 1:1 match for each donation for projects totaling $2,000 or less. Until 2024, the Community Foundation has provided $25,000 in matching funds from its Fund for Educational Excellence. In 2024, the match was increased to $30,000.
The Community Foundation’s 2024 match became available on DonorsChoose on August 1, 2024, and was completed on September 12, 2024, having helped to fund 126 projects in 25 schools, supporting 82 teachers.
