For donors interested in supporting education, there are several giving options to explore. We encourage you to contact the Community Foundation to learn how we can help you fulfill your charitable intentions.
The Fund for Educational Excellence: DonorsChoose
The endowed Fund for Educational Excellence (FFEE) was created in 1990 by a group of business, school, and private community leaders for the benefit of Linn County K-12 students. Since that time FFEE has annually made grant awards to support teachers in creative, innovative, and effective classroom projects.
In 2015, the Community Foundation began a partnership with DonorsChoose, a nonprofit organization that makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need, to match gifts to help fund classroom projects in Linn County, Iowa. Linn County public school teachers have the opportunity to submit classroom project requests to DonorsChoose, and donors are able to give any amount to the projects that inspire them directly through DonorsChoose. The Community Foundation provides a 1:1 match for each donation for projects totaling $2,000 or less. Each year the Community Foundation has $25,000 available in matching funds from its Fund for Educational Excellence.
The 2022 match from the Community Foundation became available on DonorsChoose on August 1, 2022. To view a list of current projects available, click here.
The 2021 match from the Community Foundation became available on DonorsChoose on August 2, 2021, and it was completed on October 20, 2021, having supported 111 teacher projects at 23 schools in Linn County. To see projects funded in 2021, click here.
