Title: Development Officer
Hours: Full-time, Exempt
Reports to: Senior Vice President of Development
Position Summary: The Development Officer is responsible for developing and strengthening long- term relationships on behalf of the Community Foundation with current fund holders as assigned. The Development Officer will cultivate relationships with a portfolio of individual, nonprofit and/or affiliate fund holders. The Development Officer will provide prospect management by identifying, cultivating and soliciting gifts, leading one-on-one consultations and advising on best practices in philanthropic giving.
Principal Responsibilities:
Donor Development
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and provide stewardship for fund holders and prospects encouraging their giving to/through the Community Foundation.
- Respond to inquiries and meet with fund holders, prospects, and community members, and their advisors in one-on-one or group settings. May involve research and public presentations.
- Consider diversity and inclusion when looking for new prospects and donor engagement.
- Help donors clarify their philanthropic goals and find ways to realize those goals.
- Provide stewardship to the William Quarton Society and maintain contact with Quarton Society Members.
- Analyze assigned portfolio and develop segmented cultivation strategy.
- Manage portfolio-specific projects, as assigned.
- Be an advocate for donor development within the community and the profession.
Donor Stewardship
Provides timely response and support for fund holders. Specific tasks include:
- Prepare new fund agreements for prospective funds; gather appropriate donor and/or organization information to open new funds in iPhi database.
- Handle verbal and written inquiries from fund holders requesting assistance with fund management. Often involves cross-team collaboration.
- Prepare materials for meetings with fund holders and prospective donors.
- Utilize CRM module in the iPhi database.
- Utilize and maintain Donor Development Cycle management and coding in iPhi database.
- Assist with database maintenance, reports and mailing/email lists.
- Provide back-up support for Development Team operations functions including gift processing.
- Participate in and support Community Foundation events.
- Participate in and support the Development Committee as needed.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Comply with all Community Foundation
- Maintain confidentiality as defined in the Community Foundation Confidentiality Policy.
- Ensure compliance with IRS, ICoF and COF National Standards.
- Follow emergency plan in crisis situations.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and professional manner, both in appearance and actions in carrying out job responsibilities.
- Attend and participate in Community Foundation meetings as directed.
- Promotes a team concept by being courteous, helpful and supportive to other employees and all Community Foundation
- Maintains scheduled work hours and notifies supervisor personally of absences.
- Works flexible hours, including evening and weekend hours, if needed.
- Complete/submit forms related to payroll and human resources accurately and on time to supervisor.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the work environment.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required. Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) preferred.
- Minimum five years of experience with and knowledge of nonprofit development. Foundation and fund management experience preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of how to build a major donor pipeline and implement best practices of donor stewardship.
- Record of securing gifts and commitments from major donors.
- Experience meeting the needs of stakeholders, both internal and external, and responding to them proactively.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, flexible, collegial and goal-oriented environment.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with Community Foundation staff, Board, donors, professional advisors, volunteers and nonprofits.
- Must possess strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, set priorities, schedule and produce work in a timely manner.
- Must possess high analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively utilize the Stellar iPhi database. Experience in iPhi database software helpful but not required.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
