Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation to Match Donations to Classroom Projects in Linn County Public Schools
Donations to classroom projects in Linn County public schools are currently being matched by the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation through DonorsChoose.org.
DonorsChoose.org is a national nonprofit organization that makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. When public school teachers create classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org, donors can give any amount to the projects that inspire them, and the Community Foundation will provide a 1:1 match for each donation for projects totaling $2,000 or less.
Currently, there are 49 project requests created by teachers in Linn County on DonorsChoose.org.
“Children are our future,” says Jenny Becker, Director of Grant Programs at the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation. “A well-equipped teacher can change a young person’s life. I’ve experienced this first-hand. The DonorChoose.org tool gives teachers the opportunity to describe the resources they know they need and allows generous donors to contribute in order to support students in our community.”
In total, the Community Foundation has $25,000 of match funding available for the 2018 – 2019 school year.
“The match allows each gift to double its impact,” says Becker. “It’s an easy way for donors to support public school education.”
Last year, the Community Foundation match provided funding to 81 projects, reaching 5,880 students in Linn County.
