Community Learning Series: Rebuilding the Soul of our Community

Throughout Linn County, there are dozens of arts & culture organizations that bring vibrancy, education, and excitement to our community. Since the onset of the pandemic, almost every single one of these has had to cancel events or programming. As many were finding new ways to reach audiences, the August 2020 derecho brought a new set of challenges.  

But like the rest of our community, the arts and culture sector is resilient. These organizations have adapted and rebuilt, learning from past challenges while looking to the future. At the Community Learning Series: Rebuilding the Soul of Our Community, held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, a few local arts and culture leaders shared their experiences navigating the challenges of the last two years and what they are hopeful of. The group also shared information about the economic impact of arts & culture on Linn County, as well as the individual impact arts experiences can have on our well-being.    

The event also featured a specially produced video performance (below) by local artist, choreographer, and dance educator Lovar Davis Kidd.

It boasts multiple opportunities for learning, entertainment, leisure, personal growth, and sharing experiences with others,” said Les Garner, President & CEO of the Community Foundation. “From theatres and museums to art studios and music performances, art and culture gives us knowledge, enhances self-growth, and unites us.”
