Because of donors who care about education, the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation has funding available to support classroom education projects in Linn County public schools for grades K-12 that cannot be funded through the school’s budget.

The Community Foundation has partnered with DonorsChoose to match gifts to help fund classroom projects in Linn County, Iowa.  DonorsChoose is a nonprofit organization that makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need.

How it works:  Public school teachers create classroom project requests; donors can give any amount to the projects that inspire them; and the Community Foundation provides a 1:1 match for donations to projects of $2,000 or less.

The Community Foundation 2020 match became available on DonorsChoose on August 3, 2020, and the match was completed on December 1, 2020. Each year the Community Foundation has $25,000 available in matching funds from its Fund for Educational Excellence.

In 2020, 72 teachers participated from 31 schools in Linn County. 97 projects were funded –reaching 9,359 students.

In 2021, the Community Foundation again will have $25,000 available in matching funds for Linn County teacher projects beginning August 2.
