Because of donors who care about education, the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation has funding available to support classroom education projects in Linn County public schools for grades K-12 that cannot be funded through the school’s budget.
The Community Foundation has partnered with DonorsChoose.org to match gifts to help fund classroom projects in Linn County, Iowa. DonorsChoose.org is a nonprofit organization that makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need.
How it works: Public school teachers create classroom project requests; donors can give any amount to the projects that inspire them; and the Community Foundation provides a 1:1 match for each donation for projects totaling $2,000 or less.
The Community Foundation 2018 match became available on DonorsChoose.org August 1, 2018, and it will be available until the $25,000 has been used.
This funding comes from the Fund for Educational Excellence at the Community Foundation.
In 2017, 68 teachers participated from 25 schools in Linn County. Eighty-one projects were funded –reaching 5,880 students. The match dollars were used up on October 13, 2017.
