Because of donors who care about education, the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation has funding available to support classroom education projects in Linn County public schools for grades K-12 that cannot be funded through the school’s budget.
The Community Foundation has partnered with DonorsChoose.org to match gifts to help fund classroom projects in Linn County, Iowa. DonorsChoose.org is a nonprofit organization that makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need.
How it works: Public school teachers create classroom project requests; donors can give any amount to the projects that inspire them; and the Community Foundation provides a 1:1 match for each donation for projects totaling $2,000 or less.
The Community Foundation 2018 match became available on DonorsChoose.org August 1, 2018, and the $25,000 in match dollars was used up on November 12, 2018.
This funding comes from the Fund for Educational Excellence at the Community Foundation.
In 2018, 87 teachers participated from 38 schools in Linn County. One hundred-two projects were funded –reaching 7,267 students.

This year the Community Foundation again will have $25,000 available in matching funds for Linn County teacher projects beginning August 1.
