Because of donors who care about education, the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation has funding available to support classroom education projects in Linn County public schools for grades K-12 that cannot be funded through the school’s budget.
The Community Foundation has partnered with DonorsChoose.org to match gifts to help fund classroom projects in Linn County, Iowa. DonorsChoose.org is a nonprofit organization that makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need.
How it works: Public school teachers create classroom project requests; donors can give any amount to the projects that inspire them; and the Community Foundation provides a 1:1 match for each donation for projects totaling $2,500 or less.
To set up a project request page, go to www.DonorsChoose.org. Once the page has been established, we encourage you to promote your page to student families and friends. The Community Foundation will also be promoting this partnership and encouraging donors to visit DonorsChoose.org to fund projects.
The Community Foundation has $25,000 of funding available for the 2017 – 2018 school year. This funding comes from the Fund for Educational Excellence at the Community Foundation.
In 2016, 73 teachers participated from 27 schools in Linn County. Eighty-six projects were funded –reaching 8,602 students. The match dollars were used up by October 28, 2016.
