ABOUT
Prospect Meadows provides opportunities for every child to play. Underserved local youth play in the League of Dreams, youth and young adults with disabilities play on the Miracle Field, and Prospect Meadows supports other nonprofits to raise money by providing fields for free for their events.
Prospect Meadows was founded on the premise of four bases to achieve success.
First Base: Local Youth Teams
Prospect Meadows constructed 8 regulation baseball/softball fields in response to concerns from local groups that there was a significant shortage of fields available for practice and games for kids-elementary through middle school. Families also expressed a desire for a local facility to limit tournament travel costs.
Second Base: Underserved and At-Risk Youth
In partnership with the Cedar Rapids Optimists and the Cedar Rapids Kernels, Prospect Meadows has developed a League of Dreams, a non-competitive instructional baseball/softball experience. It focuses on positive individual instructive experiences at no cost to families. Area elementary schools currently make referrals to the program.
Third Base: Differently-Abled Youth
The Miracle Field is an accessible baseball/softball field specifically designed for differently-abled individuals. The Marion Metro Kiwanis operate the league on Saturdays during the season and provide all equipment including Major League replica jerseys and hats. There is no charge for participation.
Home Plate: Economy and Tourism
Prospect Meadows is the first large-scale sports tourism project in Linn County and has become a destination for competitive state and regional baseball/softball tournaments. The economic impact Prospect Meadows has had on the region is tremendous and shared later in this application.
