ABOUT

Central Furniture Rescue provides furniture and household items at no cost to individuals and families who are transitioning out of experiencing homelessness and into their own places to live. Central Furniture Rescue wants every person to have 4 basic things: the ability to prepare and eat a meal, the ability to sit down, the ability to sleep, and the ability to bathe. CFR began in 2019 because our founder, Susan Johnston, met a young mom at a church rummage sale. She began to help people in the community from her garage and 7 years later CFR is fully operating warehouse. Central Furniture Rescue works with over 40 local not for profit partners, churches, healthcare workers, and schools to get referrals for the right fit client. Over the past 7 years, CFR has helped over 4,000 households. That is over 9,000 people with almost half being children. Central Furniture Rescue’s mission also has immense environmental impact. By reusing and distributing donated items, CFR has saved thousands of pounds (tons) of waste from the landfill. Central Furniture Rescue removes barriers to allow people to live with dignity, while also making sure our landfill stays manageable.
