We’re pleased to share that Governor Reynolds recently signed legislation preserving the Endow Iowa tax credit program! After months of negotiations, the program will continue in 2026—but with some significant changes and updates.

What’s Changing in 2026?

Effective January 1, 2026:

  • The tax credit allocation will decrease from $6 million to $3.5 million.
  • The maximum tax credit per taxpayer will be reduced from $100,000 to $50,000.
  • Gifts to corporate-named endowments will no longer be eligible.
  • Iowa community foundations will now submit an annual report to the legislature detailing grant distributions from Endow Iowa funds.

What This Means for 2025

The program will remain unchanged for the rest of 2025:

  • $6 million in total tax credits were allocated. As of now, over $3.5 million of the 2025 allocation is still available.
  • The maximum tax credit remains $100,000 per taxpayer.

If you’re considering a gift, now is a great time to take advantage of the current program structure. We recommend speaking with your tax advisor and connecting with the Community Foundation to make the most of this opportunity.
