Nonprofit Party to Recognize Nonprofit Professionals Going Above and Beyond

As a thank you to the many dedicated nonprofit professionals in our community, the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation will host its second annual Nonprofit Party on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the Prairie Oak Lodge in Wanatee Park in Marion.

The Nonprofit Party is a chance for the nonprofit community to relax, connect, and celebrate one another’s dedication and hard work.

“There is a lot to celebrate this year,” said Carrie Walker, Nonprofit Network Manager at the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation. “Our community has been through so much recently, and our nonprofits have seen us through. When we encounter challenges like those of 2020, the local nonprofit sector always steps up, and they have done some amazing work throughout the pandemic and in response to the derecho.”

New at this year’s party is the Spirit of Minnie Rubek recognition. Minnie Rubek was an unsung heroine of our community who worked as a member of the housekeeping staff at Interstate Power and Light for many years. Upon her passing, she left her estate to the Community Welfare Fund—the predecessor of the Community Foundation—in what was a transformative gift for the organization and the greater community. Her work and dedication over many years made a lasting—albeit quiet—impact on the community as a whole.

The Spirit of Minnie Rubek recognition honors a nonprofit employee (leader or staff member) or founder of a Linn County nonprofit organization who has gone “above and beyond” in their commitment and dedication to their organization and its mission, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of the organization. They exhibit the spirit of Minnie Rubek in their nonprofit work.

Linn County nonprofit organizations can submit one person to honor at the Nonprofit Party. The Spirit of Minnie Rubek submission form and information can be found here. Submissions are due on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. Questions can be directed to Carrie Walker at 319.774.2375 (office) or 319-360-3950 (mobile) or carrie.walker@gcrcf.org.
