Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation Approves Over $3 Million in Grants

Published: January 18, 2019 | By: Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation | Category:

The Board of Directors of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation recently approved $3.3 million in grants to 116 nonprofit organizations. The awards include competitive grants from the Community Foundation’s Funds for the Community, as well as distributions from donor-advised, designated, scholarship and agency funds. These grants bring the Community Foundation’s 2018 grantmaking total to over $11 million.

Funds for the Community grants are made from permanently endowed funds entrusted to the Community Foundation. These include the Program Fund, which supports new and innovative programs and sustains current programs; the Organizational Development Fund, which supports nonprofits in strengthening their ability to carry out their mission; and the Linn County Fund, which supports programs that enhance the quality of life outside the Cedar Rapids metropolitan area.

Together, these grants help strengthen the nonprofits that are working to make the Cedar Rapids area a safer, more vibrant and equitable place to live and work. Since its inception, the Community Foundation has provided more than $125 million to local nonprofit organizations.

During this grant cycle, the Community Foundation received over $1.4 million in requests for competitive grants. The Community Foundation was able to grant $618,878, or 41% of the requested amount.
