The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation is hosting the second annual Celebration of Community event to celebrate the work of nonprofits in Linn County and the impact of grantmaking. This free event will be held on Thursday, November 13 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Building, 50 2nd Avenue Bridge, Cedar Rapids.

“The nonprofit sector is critical to our community’s vitality,” says Les Garner, President & CEO of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation. “These organizations work to improve the health and well-being of individuals; create artistic and cultural experiences; enhance the quality of our natural environment; and educate us. We value their vital role and look forward to celebrating that.”

The event will feature a program from 4 – 4:45 p.m. and a networking reception immediately following until 6 p.m. Through a series of videos and dialogue, the program will highlight the impact of the nonprofit sector and will feature the stories of several recent grant-funded projects.

The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation will also present two nonprofit awards at the event.  Nominations are currently being accepted for the Nonprofit Leadership Excellence Award and the Minnie Rubek Staff Excellence Award.  The Nonprofit Leadership Excellence Award recognizes the leadership and accomplishments of the chief executive officer or executive director of a Linn County nonprofit organization.   The Minnie Rubek Staff Excellence Award recognizes a nonprofit staff member who has gone “above and beyond” in their support of the organization mission and has greatly enhanced the overall effectiveness of the organization through his/her work. This award can also be given to recognize a group of nonprofit employees.

The deadline for nominations is Monday, October 20, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. Nomination forms can be found at gcrcf.org and should be submitted electronically to Carrie Walker at carrie.walker@gcrcf.org or mailed to: Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, Attn. Carrie Walker, 324 Third Street SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401.

Nominations are encouraged from nonprofit organizations, board members and community members. In addition to the award, each recipient will receive a $1,000 grant from the Community Foundation designated for staff development at the honoree’s organization.

The event is open to the public. RSVP’s are being accepted at 319.366.2862 or laura.booth@gcrcf.org.
