Vice President of Community Impact
Joe works to enhance the Community Foundation’s support of area nonprofits and leads the team that implements grantmaking, capacity building, learning, and community leadership initiatives.
Joe previously served seven years as executive director of Cantus, one of two full-time professional vocal chamber ensembles in the United States. Joe also held marketing and fundraising roles at the Boston Symphony Orchestra, DeVos Institute of Arts Management, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, and Abu Dhabi Film Festival. He began his career as a reporter at the Cape Cod Times.
Born and raised in Northeast Iowa, Joe earned an MBA from the University of Cambridge and a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University. He completed undergraduate degrees in music and journalism from the University of Iowa and received a Fulbright fellowship to research public investment in community music programs in Slovenia. Joe holds citizenship in Slovenia and Luxembourg, and he enjoys travel, history, and making music.
