Purpose
The Funds for the Community Cycle 2 will support actions that allow organizations to survive and maintain essential functions, including altering programs and program delivery models, constituency retention strategies, and planning for extended closures and/or phased reopening. In keeping with Community Foundation funding practices, grants will be awarded to a wide variety of 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in Linn County to help sustain arts & cultural organizations, health and human service organizations, and others.
Application Deadline
Application deadline is Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at 4:30 PM CST. The online grant portal will open on Monday, June 8, 2020. Grant award notifications will be sent Thursday, September 10, 2020.
Organization Eligibility
Organization has 501 (c) (3) status and is based in Linn County or provides significant programming in Linn County. Grant funding must be spent in Linn County.
Ineligible Activities
- Fundraising events and activities that will take place in the future
- Religious activities for religious purposes
Maximum Request Amount
Up to $20,000 per cycle or 20% of the organization budget, whichever is less.
2020 Application Funding Limitations
- Organizations may receive no more than $50,000 from the Funds for the Community during the 2020 calendar year. This limit includes payments from multi-year Program Fund grant awards paid in 2020 and grants from the Funds for the Community – an unrestricted pool of funds earmarked in 2020 to help organizations maintain essential functions.
- Distributions from competitive donor advised funds, donor-advised funds, designated funds, agency funds, and scholarship funds are not included in the $50,000 limit.
Number of Applications Limit in 2020
An organization may apply for Funds for the Community in all of the three cycles.

Final Report Requirement
Grant recipients will be required to submit a final report detailing use of funds. The grant report will be due upon completion of the grant, or 14 months from date of award, whichever comes sooner. The final report form will be available on the website.
