Scholarship Funds Support Local Students

The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation is well known for the millions of dollars in grants it provides to Linn County nonprofits every year. But Community Foundation donors also support our community’s future by providing more than $100,000 in scholarships to local students each year.

Donors passionate about education have established more than 40 scholarship funds at the Community Foundation, each with its own award criteria—some support students from specific high schools, while others support those entering specific fields or trades. Committees of either high school staff members or Community Foundation volunteers select recipients through a competitive application process.

“Donors can contribute to a wide range of scholarship funds,” said Arthur Kim, Development Officer. “With so many to choose from, it’s easy to find a scholarship fund that aligns with your philanthropic priorities.”

As the cost of higher education continues to rise, more and more students need financial aid to pursue their educational and professional goals.

“These funds provide valuable financial aid for young people,” said Bernadette Gladish, Grants and Programs Manager. “As our community’s next generation, it is so important for them to have access to educational opportunities.”

“This scholarship has placed me one step closer to achieving a debt-free education,” said Emijah Jones, who received a Washington Alumni Scholarship and is pursuing graphic design with a minor in Spanish. Emijah has already worked with several local nonprofits to sharpen her skills, impact her community, and prepare for life after high school. “I want to continue to learn different ways to connect with the community to make a difference. I look forward to earning my degree and giving back to the community.”
