The Foundation offers multiple opportunities for funding based on the type of project, organization age and size, and community need. Grant funds are available for both emerging and established organizations for projects ranging from small, time-limited grants to larger multi-year commitments. The first step in preparing your grant application is choosing the right grant program or programs. The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation makes grants to nonprofits from the following programs: Program Grant Fund (application deadlines: February 15, July 16, October 15) Supports new and innovative programs and sustains current and/or ongoing programs with grant awards from $5,000 to $50,000 (grant amounts dependent on age of organization, operating budget and demonstration of outcomes). Organizations that receive funding for programs are eligible for a renewal of funding (an application for renewal funding is required.)
Capacity Grant Fund (application deadlines: February 15, July 16, October 15) Supports high performing nonprofits that have been functioning for two years or more with organizational development grant awards from $2,000 to $15,000 (grant amounts dependent on age or organization and operating budget) and Endowment Challenge grants of $25,000.
President's Fund (applications accepted anytime) This fund provides small grants for emerging organizations and emergency needs. Applications are accepted at any time and decisions are usually made in 2-3 weeks.
County Grants Programs (application deadlines: Linn County Fund is June 15 and October 15; Wapello County Fund is September 1) The County Endowment program was established by the Iowa legislature to support charitable investments in Iowa counties. The Linn, Jones and Wapello County Endowment Funds are administered by the GCRCF, in conjunction with grant committees from the respective counties.
Corporate and Family Competitive Donor-Advised Funds (application deadlines: February 15, July 16, October 15) The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation administers competitive grant programs for a number of donor-advised funds. Some competitive donor-advised funds will consider the following types of requests for funding: capital campaigns, operating support, event sponsorships and endowment campaigns.
Education Grant Programs (application deadline: September 7) The Fund for Educational Excellence (FFEE) competitive grant program is designed to encourage creativity and experiential learning in the classroom, foster imaginative teaching and enhance instructional methods, and promote collaboration in Linn County public schools.
The Marshall Journalism Grants for High School Newspapers/Journalism Departments strengthen high school journalism departments by providing funds for needed equipment, including software.
