Grant Resources for Nonprofits and Public Agencies

Connecting Donors to Need
The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation works to make greater Cedar Rapids a better place by awarding grants in four areas:

Arts and Culture
Community Development and the Environment
Education
Health and Human Services.

Awards come from a variety of funds within the Community Foundation. In 2009, the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation distributed $8.9 million in grants and scholarships. From this amount, grants were awarded to 331 unique nonprofits and funded 940 grants and 81 scholarships.

The Foundation offers multiple opportunities for funding based on the type of project, organization age and size, and community need. Grant funds are available for both emerging and established organizations for projects ranging from small, time-limited grants to larger multi-year commitments.

2010 Grant Program Details

The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation administers nearly thirty component funds from which nonprofit organizations may apply to receive a grant. Each of the funds has different priorities and areas of interest. Grant making committees make funding decisions throughout the year based on various fund deadlines. The grant deadlines for 2010 are Feb. 15, June 15 and Oct. 15 at 4:30 p.m.

The Community Foundation has developed a 2010 Funds Chart that includes details on the fund, deadlines for application and number of copies, areas of interest and average award size. This will assist organizations and grant writers as they prepare and submit their grant application.
