Grant Resources for Nonprofits and Public Agencies

Connecting Donors to Need
The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation works to make greater Cedar Rapids a better place by awarding grants in four primary areas:

Arts and Culture
Community Development and the Environment
Education
Health and Human Services.

Awards come from a variety of funds within the Community Foundation. In 2010, the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation awarded grants to 228 nonprofit organizations and funded 43 scholarships, providing $6.3 million in support grants supporting arts and culture, community development and the environment, education and health and human services in Linn County

The Foundation offers multiple opportunities for funding based on the type of project, organization age and size, and community need. Grant funds are available for both emerging and established organizations for projects ranging from small, time-limited grants to larger multi-year commitments.

2012 Grant Program Details

The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation administers nearly thirty component funds from which nonprofit organizations may apply to receive a grant. Each of the funds has different priorities and areas of interest. Grant making committees make funding decisions throughout the year based on various fund deadlines. The grant deadlines for 2012 are February 15, July 16 and October 15 at 4:30 p.m.

The Community Foundation has developed a Discretionary Grant Opportunities chart that includes details on the fund, deadlines for application and average award size. This will assist organizations and grant writers as they prepare and submit their grant application. For additional funding opportunities, please see the Competitive Donor-Advised Grants.
