Philanthropy - What's it all About?

Some people think philanthropy is just about celebrities, the wealthy or a foundation giving away lots of money, but that’s only one part of the picture.

Philanthropy is really about people giving their time and talents to help causes or organizations they care about.

It’s pretty simple - philanthropy is anything you do to make your community and the world around you a better place.

Being a philanthropist can take many forms, ranging from donating a large sum of money to a charity to creating a community garden in your neighborhood or volunteering your time to help out at a local hospital.

Getting involved in your community as a volunteer or philanthropist can have many rewards – you’ll feel good knowing you’re making the world a better place, you can start new friendships and gain leadership experience.

The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation offers a competitive scholarship program and a youth philanthropy program called Youth POWER for high school students. Get involved. Do something. Be you!
