Over the course of the past eighty years our organization has worked in the Cedar Rapids community helping people. From providing the initial start-up funding for newborn hearing screening at both local hospitals, to providing dental hygiene packs to patients at the Community Free Medical Clinic, to providing hearing aids to children in families with financial need, to purchasing phonic ears at Theatre Cedar Rapids to aid those people who are hard of hearing, we are actively involved in supporting people in our community. Through our organization, teaching aides have also been supplied to schools to be used in classrooms with hearing impaired students. And, we’ve purchased computers for children who were having trouble learning due to their disability. We have also provided scholarships to individuals who are either deaf or hard-of-hearing, or going into a deaf related field of study. And, we’ve supplied clothes and daily necessity items to some of the local women’s shelters. We have an annual Quota Honors Program whereby we provide recognition to two 8th grade students from each school in our community.
Our Cops ‘n ‘ Kids program involves providing books to the Cedar Rapids and Marion Police Departments for distribution to children in the more impoverished areas of our city. Our primary goal is to encourage children of all ages to read and help them to recognize the opportunities that good reading skills provide to them. Age appropriate books, from pre-school through the 8th grade, are being given to youngsters by police officers. This program not only encourages literacy, but also works toward enhancing the rapport between children and the Police Department. By providing books to children who otherwise might not have many, if any, of their own, officers will be promoting positive youth development.
The above are just a few of the works that we have performed in service to our community. Many of these activities are on-going. And through our fund raising efforts, we plan to continue to support the needs of individuals and organizations throughout our area. To support our efforts, tax exempt donations can be made to Quota of Cedar Rapids, Inc. 100% of all donations go directly to supporting service programs in the community.
