Our Story
Since 1949, we’ve partnered with donors and nonprofits to build a more vibrant and equitable Linn County where all people can thrive. Those who established our organization in 1949 understood that it would take significant time and effort to create the community resource they envisioned. Over the years, thousands of donors have contributed to the Community Foundation, and thousands of community members have relied on nonprofits to meet their needs and improve their quality of life. Celebrating with Our Community
Thank you to everyone who came out on August 7 to help us celebrate 75 years of serving Linn County! From unveiling our new mural to honoring William Quarton Heritage Society members, it was a great day of reflecting on our past and thinking hopefully about the future. The gathering was a great reminder of how many passionate individuals have come together over the years to make our organization and community what it is today.
Events to Celebrate 75 Years
Mural to Mark Milestone
To help us mark this significant milestone, we commissioned a mural on the side of our building. Partnering with Murals & More and the Downtown Cedar Rapids SSMID Commission, we hired local artist Scott Takes of Underground Art Studios to create a visual representation of our work and its impact on our community.
The concept for the mural is based on the Greek roots of ‘philanthropy’: ‘philos’ meaning love, and ‘anthropos’ meaning human. “Love for Humanity” was unveiled at our Block Party on August 7 and serves as a symbol of our dedication to the people of Linn County.
Make a Gift of $75 or More to the Greater Good Fund
Consider a gift of $75 or more to the Community Foundation’s unrestricted Greater Good Fund in celebration of our anniversary. This unrestricted fund supports the competitive grant programs at the Community Foundation. We can’t predict the future, but gifts to this fund provide funding for nonprofits to meet our community’s greatest needs and opportunities as they arise.
